Where did our money go? Building a banking system fit for purpose A new report from Nef In 2008, the Government issued the biggest single public bail-out in history to rescue major retail banks in the middle of a credit crisis. This report asks where our money went, who has benefited from it, and what was asked of the banks in return. ‘Where did our money go?’ also considers the fall-out from the financial crisis. Is the cuts agenda right? What will be its consequences? What are the alternatives? Finally, we ask what should be done to prevent future crises, and how banking should change to be useful to the wider productive economy and society. The report concludes that considering the massive impact of the failure of the banks, action to address systemic problems has been woefully inadequate. It also argues that the current banking system is not yet fit for purpose when it comes to addressing the major economic, social and environmental challenges that we currently face.

As Western Civilization Lies Dying – John Kozy – URL of this article: Global Research, September 29, 2010 – The Western commercial system exists to extract more from consumers than it supplies in products and services. Its goal is profit and has never been to improve the human condition but to exploit it. When governments institutionalize this system, they place their nations on suicidal paths, because as Jefferson recognized, “Merchants have no country.” It is not terrorism that threatens the security of the Western World, it is the Western World’s commercial system

Banking is a form of bloodless warfare. Unless, of course, things really fall apart. Then the gun thugs are sent into to “restore order” or “bring democracy to the region.” Things haven’t gotten to this point in Europe, but this fascinating story about Swedish banks, the IMF and Latvian mortgage payers, reveals the dark underbelly of the international financial system. Woe to the naive. It’s a jungle out there. Video:
